SYMPOSIA! WITH STEVEN HARVEY, KYLE STAVER & MICHAEL DAVID
Dates: Tuesdays Spring and Summer 2025 on Zoom
Time: 90 min
A “mini” Symposia course with discussion, critiques and resulting in a pop-up exhibition!
For the first time we are thrilled to introduce curator, writer, artist, and friend to artists, Steven Harvey. Steven will be running a “mini” Symposia with Kyle Staver and Michael David which will culminate in a pop-up exhibition.
This spirited (Steven first came to the Yellow Chair as a guest critic and "spirited" is not used lightly) conversation between these three, with over a century of experience in looking and loving painting, are not to be missed.
Steven will also close each meeting with a discussion of an artist he has exhibited, reflecting on his own relationship with the work and the artist. This mix of art history and storytelling combined with these three lovers of painting creates an exciting format - and a hot house for personal growth.
Steven Harvey founded Steven Harvey Projects in 2007. The gallery space is located at 208 Forsyth Street in New York City. Steven has over twenty-five years of experience in the art world as an artist, art advisor, a writer on art and music, an art dealer, and a curator. Steven Harvey Projects has shown the work of Katherine Bradford, June Leaf, Peter Acheson, Bob Thompson, Susanna Coffey, Gandy Brodie, and Angela Dufresne, to name only a few. Harvey has said that he wanted to present art “in a raw, unfussy way that allowed its subtle qualities to emerge.”
Kyle Staver is an artist living and working in New York City. Her paintings and reliefs have been shown in galleries and museums around the world, including at the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the American Folk Art Museum. In 2015, she received the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship. Kyle’s paintings combine myths and archetypes with lush color and dynamic compositions. She is a formidable painter and a gifted speaker on her work and the work of others.
