Yellow Chair is designed for emerging, mid-career, and established artists seeking rigorous dialogue, mentorship, and community. Our programs support artists across disciplines and at many different stages of practice. There is no single “right moment” to join—many artists come to Yellow Chair while building momentum, navigating transition, or seeking renewed focus.

Yes. Many artists move through multiple Yellow Chair offerings over time. Some begin in Salon or Symposia! and later transition into PODS, ISP, Residencies, or exhibitions.
We think of our programs as pathways rather than isolated experiences.

Salon and Symposia! typically run in set sessions. PODS and ISP are more flexible and may extend over longer periods depending on the artist’s needs. Residencies are offered in designated timeframes.
Specific timelines are shared during the application or inquiry process.

Yellow Chair residencies provide studio space and access to a creative working environment through Art Cake.
Please note: housing is not included. Residencies are studio-based only.
Artists also have opportunities for mentorship during the lead up and through out the program, studio visits, critique, and public-facing programming.

Yes. Yellow Chair supports artists through exhibitions, partnerships, and public programming. Many artists have opportunities to present their work through our ongoing collaboration with Art Cake and other exhibition initiatives.
